Easy Money, Right

Easy Money, Right

Scott practically bounced up the steps to his apartment, fumbling with the keys in unfamiliar, slightly trembling hands. Even that felt surreal-the hands weren’t his. They were slimmer, older, with neatly trimmed nails painted a soft mauve. Judith’s hands.

He pushed the door open and stepped inside, grinning.

“I’m back!” he called out, his voice still catching him off guard. It wasn’t his usual easy baritone-it was lighter, older, distinctly *hers*.

His roommate, Kevin, looked up from the couch. At first, he just blinked. Then his eyebrows shot up.

“Uh… can I help you?”

Scott laughed-actually laughed, hearing Judith’s voice do it-and struck a little pose. “Relax, it’s me. Scott.”

Kevin stared. “Okay, that’s not funny. Seriously, why are you in here? Where’s Scott?”

Scott rolled his eyes, adjusting the pink blazer over the black knee-length dress Judith had picked out. “Dude, I *am* Scott. Judith-our neighbor? She paid me 500 bucks to swap bodies with her for the afternoon.”

Silence.

Kevin blinked again, slower this time. “You’re telling me… Mrs. Whitaker… is walking around in your body right now?”

“Yep!” Scott said, stepping further inside, glancing down at the gray tights and pink open-toed shoes with obvious amusement. “She’s got some kind of device. Sci-fi stuff. Totally real.”

Kevin just stared, somewhere between disbelief and concern.

Scott continued, talking quickly, energized. “She didn’t want to spend four hours at the hairdresser but needed her hair done *badly*. So she told me exactly what to ask for, gave me the money, and boom-body swap. All I have to do is sit there and let them work.”
