It Gets Worse

It Gets Worse

Prologue

Johnny picked up his phone and told 'SIRI', "Call the RoseDale Salon."

"Hello, I would like to make an appointment to get my legs waxed."

"Certainly. When would you like your appointment."

"How about Friday at 4:30?"

"We have an opening. Can I get your name?"

"My name is..."

Johnny paused in mid-sentence. A few seconds later, "Hello, Hello," was heard from the phone.

Then he asked, "Who am I speaking to?"

"Sarah at the RoseDale Salon. Now, about your 4:30 appointment on Friday, what is your name, please?"

Johnny hung up the phone immediately.

Chapter

Johnny didn't understand what was happening. The last thing he remembered was turning on the water to take a shower. Apparently, he had completed washing up. He looking at himself in the mirror naked except for a towel around his waist. His hair was damp. He had colored his hair from its usual dull brown to a glossy auburn. It was still brown, but now it had a pinch of red too and more life. Johnny never cared about his hair color before. He certainly didn't want to dye it any color.

He saw the empty hair dye box at the edge of the sink.

"Madison Reed: Radiant Hair Coloring kit, Verona Brown? What did I do to myself?"

He didn't know what to do. He couldn't remove the color. No amount of shampooing would remove it. That was the point of coloring one's hair. If he wanted his true color back, he would have to wait for it to grow out.

Johnny couldn't spend his life in the bathroom waiting for his hair to change color.

Later when his mother saw him, she said, "You dyed your hair? I like it."

"Thank you," was the only reply possible. He had to convince everyone that it was his idea.

"You know what, it looks like the shade Aunt April has."

"Really? I hadn't noticed."

--------------------

Laying on his bed, Johnny was watching some basketball on TV. The game wasn't very exciting. Basketball games are only exciting near the end of the fourth quarter. He was also playing a game on his cell phone.

"Johnny, we're leaving now. We'll be back before dinner," his mother called out.

Johnny's mother and aunt were going somewhere. He didn't know where. He didn't care enough to ask. Mom and Aunt April were very close. They had always been that way. Johnny's family lived on the second floor of an apartment building, and Aunt April and her husband lived on the third floor.
