Look At You
Joseph and his sister Nicole were sitting on the queen-sized bed with a sleek, dark wood frame, topped with a comforter that added a rich pop of color to the room. Over the head of the bed hangs a serene pastoral painting, depicting a tranquil countryside scene that brings a sense of calm and relaxation to the space. The walls are painted a neutral gray, providing a modern and clean backdrop that complements the darker furniture tones. Beside the bed, matching nightstands hold minimalist lamps with soft, ambient lighting. A few well-chosen books and a sleek alarm clock add functional decor to the nightstands. Opposite the bed, a streamlined desk made of polished wood serves as a workspace, featuring a laptop, a few neatly organized supplies, and a single potted plant for a touch of greenery. A simple, comfortable office chair is tucked neatly under the desk. A tall dresser in the same dark wood finish as the bed offers ample storage, with a few personal items and framed photos on top. The floor is covered with a durable, low-pile rug in a neutral beige tone, adding warmth and texture to the room. Large windows are dressed with simple, dark curtains that can be drawn for privacy or left open to let in natural light, enhancing the room's airy feel. "Look at you! You're the big brother now," Joseph laughed as he pointed a finger at his former little sister. Nicole trapped in her brother's body wept into the palm of her right hand. "How could you do this to me," Nicole sobbed. "I was the older brother for 22, I mean, let's see, fourteen years, it's your turn now." "I don't know how to be a man." "You had better learn...and learn quick." "I'm telling mom." "She won't believe you. She'll put you into the funny farm." "No, she won't." "Yes, she will." "PLEASE, JOSEPH! Swap us back!" "No, I'll never do that. I like myself this way. You wore the cutest clothes. They're mine now." "NO!" "They won't fit you anymore. You'll look silly trying to wear them." "I'll wear them anyway. You'll be embarrassed." "No, not me. Besides, I told you, they won't fit." "I'll get new ones." "Suit yourself. I'm going to MY room. I want to change. I'm going to see MY BEST FRIEND BECKY." "Becky is my friend!" "Not anymore. She won't want to hang out with an old man like you!" Joseph stood up and walked out of the room, he turned left toward what used to be Nicole's room. A moment later, Nicole ran after him. Joseph entered his new room. The walls are painted in a soft lavender hue, creating a calming and inviting atmosphere. A white, wrought-iron bed frame stands against one wall, adorned with a plush comforter in a mix of pastel colors and a scattering of decorative pillows in various shapes and sizes. Opposite the bed, a sleek white desk with a matching chair serves as a study area, complete with a laptop, colorful stationery, and a pinboard filled with photos, notes, and inspirational quotes. A white bookshelf next to the desk is filled with an assortment of books, ballet trophies, and Girl Scout mementos. Fairy lights are draped along the edges of the shelves and around the window, casting a warm, twinkling glow in the evenings. A full-length mirror with a decorative frame stands in one corner, beside a small vanity table holding makeup, jewelry, and personal care items. The floor is covered with a soft, plush rug in a light gray shade, and a few bean bags are scattered around for casual seating. Posters of Nicole's favorite bands and celebrities adorn one wall, while another is dedicated to her artwork and photos with friends. A small potted plant on the windowsill adds a touch of greenery, and sheer curtains allow natural light to filter in, making the room feel bright and airy during the day. Joseph stared at himself in the mirror in the corner of the room. His smile broadened. "This is me," he said quietly admiring his...her appearance. She could hear Nicole running in the hallway. In the mirror's reflection, he saw Nicole enter the room. "Get out of my room! I'm about to change," Joseph demanded. "This is my room!" "Not anymore." Nicole stood motionless. She...he didn't know what to do. "Now, let's see. I want to look pretty when I see Becky. I want to wear...a skirt. Yeah, a skirt and one of those tops that shows bear shoulders. You know the ones, the ones that expose bra straps." "No." "No, what?" "I won't let you wear my clothes." "You can't stop me. Besides, I'm already wearing MY clothes." Joseph walked over to the closet and opened it up. He saw dresses, skirts, dressy tops, and bottoms. Everything was hung up neatly. Nicole moved to the closet, stepped in front of Joseph, and forcefully pulled the closet door closed. "Get out of my way!" "Naa-uh." "OK, you stay there. I've got to get some things from the drawer...from MY underwear drawer." Joseph was thinking about three items in particular. He wanted a pretty pair of panties, preferably made of nylon, a pair of nude pantyhose, and a bra with decorative straps.
