Personality Swap

Personality Swap

Mom, frustrated with the constant bickering with her son, Steven, and her mother, Sylvia, swapped their personalities. She wanted each to see how the other felt.

Steven, an eighteen-year-old young man, finds himself feeling a bit out of sorts as he gets ready to visit the Senior Center. His Mom suggests he go, which Steven thinks is a bit odd since he usually goes on Fridays, and today is only Wednesday. But wanting to make the best of it, he carefully chooses his outfit---something more special than the T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers he was wearing.

He had dressed up nicely, wearing a soft lavender blouse, a gray skirt that reached just below his knees, taupe support hose, and a pair of low-heeled shoes. He even applied a touch of makeup, a habit he hadn't indulged in for a while, as his mother suggested that a visit to the senior center would be a good idea. He assumed the dress was large on him because he had lost weight.

As his mother drops him off at the Senior Center, Steven feels a flicker of excitement. He walked into the senior center, a place he believed he visited countless times before. Yet, today, everything felt off. The faces that usually greeted him warmly with smiles and friendly nods now wore puzzled expressions. As he approached his usual table, he noticed the group of women he often chatted with. When he sat down, they glanced at him with blank stares.

"Is everything alright?" Steven asked, his voice tinged with uncertainty.

One of the women, a tall lady with curly gray hair, looked at him oddly. "I'm sorry, do we know you?" she asked.

Steven felt a pang of confusion. "It's me, Steven. I've been coming here for years. We play cards together every Wednesday."

The woman shook her head slowly. "I think you're mistaken."

As Steven walked away, the women at the table started to talk rapidly in hushed tones.

Steven's heart sank. He moved on to another group, hoping for a familiar face. He found Mr. Davis, a gentleman who always shared stories from his youth. But when he greeted him, Mr. Davis just looked at him with a polite smile and said, "I'm afraid you're lost. I don't believe you belong here."
