Wedding Plans

Lynn was swamped. Work had been relentless, and her calendar was packed with meetings, deadlines, and social commitments. She barely had time to breathe, let alone handle all the errands that had piled up. That's when she thought of Tommy, her younger brother who was home for the summer from college. He had plenty of free time, and she figured he could help her out.

"Tommy," Lynn called out, finding him lounging on the couch, engrossed in a video game. "Can I talk to you for a minute?"

Tommy paused the game and looked up at her, a mix of curiosity and reluctance in his eyes. "Sure, Lynn. What's up?"

"I need a huge favor," Lynn began, sitting down next to him. "I'm completely overwhelmed with work, and you know, I'm getting married soon. There is so much to do. Can you help me out?"

Tommy's expression shifted to one of hesitation. "I don't know, Lynn. I kind of had plans to relax and hang out with my friends. What do you want me to do? Drive you around?"

"It's more than driving me around. I need you to do some of the things I would do."

"What you would do?"

"Buy a cake and get a DJ."

"That isn't too much. I mean if you don't mind, I guess I can pick something out." To Tommy, a wedding cake is a cake, and the DJ is just a guy who plays music. Tommy would get references, but it didn't seem like a lot of trouble.

"How about flowers?"

"Yeah, sure."

"A venue?"

"You want me to pick where you'll get married?"

"That and one other thing?"

"A wedding dress."

"What? Are you nuts?"

"I can't do all that. I don't know what types of things you'll like. How can I?"

"I have this charm-bracelet, if you wear it, it'll give you all of my preferences You just do what comes naturally, and I'll love it as much as you do."

"A charm-bracelet? You mean like a magic charm."

"Yeah, I guess so. I've been wearing it all day. It is charging up with my preferences If you wear it, you'll feel like I do. You'll like the same things. You'll want to do what I want to do."

"I'll feel like a girl?"

"You'll sort of feel like me."

"This is crazy. I'm not going to do it."

"I'll make it worth your while."

"How would you like to go to Las Vegas, I'll arrange a two-week trip for you and give you an extra $1,500 to spend while you're there."

"I won't be acting like you then?"

"No, you'll take off the charm-bracelet by then."

"But what will people think when I'm trying to buy a wedding dress? I guess the DJ and the other stuff is OK, but a dress?"

"While you're wearing the charm-bracelet, everyone will treat you like they treat me."

"You mean strangers."

"I mean everyone."

"This could be fun," Tommy said to himself.

"Don't do anything sick. I mean don't hang around women's restrooms. You know."

"Awe!!!"

"Will you do it for me?"

"I guess so."

Lynn smiled in relief and handed Tommy a notebook. This is what I need and the places I think would be suitable. "Thank you, Tommy. You're a lifesaver. If you don't dilly-dally it should take you a few days. I would love to do this. It sounds like so much fun. But work before pleasure. If you want, you could do my work instead and I could try on dresses, taste cakes, and smell flowers. I'm giving you the fun part. You'll love it!"

Tommy glanced at the list and nodded. "Fine, I'll do it. But I want that Las Vegas trip."

"Deal," Lynn said, giving him a quick hug. "I really appreciate this. The charm-bracelet will be fully charged by tomorrow morning. I'll give it to you and you can get started.."

"I'm not going to be stuck with your personality forever will I?"

"No, would I do that to you? You'll be back to your normal video game-playing self after you take the charm-bracelet off."

Early the next morning, Lynn entered Tommy's room. Lynn was dressed for her day, but Tommy was still sleeping.

"Wake up, wake up. I have to go to work."

Tommy stirs, "Yeah."

"Put the bracelet on and have a fun day."

Lynn slipped the bracelet past Tommy's hand and onto his wrist. It worked its magic immediately. All of Tommy's preferences transformed into Lynn's preferences. But Tommy was still too groggy to tell.

"Sure."

"Love ya. Talk to you later."
